Impact Day During impact day hundreds of people in our church, team up with other members from their life group and head out into the community to be a blessing. In their life groups all sorts of projects are completed for all sorts of organizations. Kindergartens receive makeovers, retirement homes are visited, kids without a lot are taken on special outings. It’s all go. This year we are looking at doing a couple of impact days and forming impact teams that work on projects every now and then throughout the year. Talk to your Life Group leader or e-mail the church for more information.
Kids Go Wild This is a free carnival that we put on as a church for the local community. It’s a simple way we can be a blessing. Every year literally thousands of people come and enjoy free candy floss, bouncy castles, merry-go-rounds, go-karts and so on. We look forward to Kids Go Wild every February.
Christmas Gifts for Kids Every year at City Church we get really excited about Christmas gifts for Kids. People in our church buy and donate brand new gifts that we give to children in foster care with Child, Youth and Families all around Tauranga. We give to over a hundred children and also give something small to all the social workers in appreciation for the work they do.
Parenting Seminar Its fantastic every year that we are able to host Ian and Mary Grant for a parents training event. We heavily sponsor this event in order to make it possible for anyone in the community to come. Parenting isn’t always easy and we want to set parents up to win and help ensure kids are well looked after at home.
Legends Mentoring Our mentoring program is for intermediate aged young people who are pretty close to being permanently expelled from school. Through one on one mentoring we are often able to help these young people to turn their lives around. All they need is some support, encouragement and stability which our mentors provide. We try to install a sense of value and worth and help these young people to make more productive choices.
Welfare As well as the various projects and events we run to be a blessing around the city, as a church we also keep a welfare fund going. We use this to help people in emergency situations that require food and help with other necessities in life. It isn’t a free for all for anyone that needs money but through this fund we are able to really bless some people in times of great need.
AOG Missions - James Hood Pastor James Hood serves as the Assemblies of God in New Zealand’s National Mission Coordinator. In this role Pastor James spends a lot of time liaising with, supporting and encouraging overseas missionaries all around the world that are supported by AoG churches in New Zealand. Pastor James also works with local churches helping them in their support of missionaries and in coordinating united responses among churches where emergency aid is need in crisis such as recent events in Samoa and Haiti.
Women in Leadership Summit Each year as a church it is exciting to be able to sponsor and subsidize a leadership summit aimed particularly for women in leadership. Pastor Elena Hood gathers 10-16 women leaders from churches around New Zealand each year for a time of impartation, inspiration, equipping and encouraging. This is a great event and a great way that we can be a blessing to the nation.
AOG - Church Planting Church planting is an essential part of the expansion of God’s Kingdom here on earth. We think it is fantastic that as a church we can give into a fund that supports Pastors when church planting, making the big project that is a ‘church plant’ that little more achievable. Who knows when we’ll be planting a church out of our house? One day for sure. So it’s great to be able to support others in that endeavor today.
Pray Don’t under estimate the power of prayer. Take the time to pray for the various ministries, leaders of ministries and people they impact. Our prayers are appreciated so so much by those on the front lines of mission work and truly have the power to bring the favor and the hand of God into some pretty difficult situations. Make sure you take the time to pray for our Outward In Focus initiatives here in Tauranga and New Zealand and also on the other side of the world.
Give The reality is, all of these projects need finance in order to be outworked. Why don’t you consider as a part of your giving supporting Outward in Focus as a collective of initiatives in the life of the Church? You can mark your giving towards Outward in Focus on your offering envelope with all donations being tax deductible.
Go Its possible to visit nearly all of the projects that we support as a church. Why don’t you save up, go, visit and support one of these great works. No doubt there is something you could be a great help in at any of these ventures. The experience will be life changing, especially travelling to somewhere like Imphal in India. You’ll visit Calcutta and be incredibly impacted by the different cultures you encounter. If you go open to the Holy Spirit working in your life, you’ll be amazed at what will be an amazing season of growth.
Don't Wait! You don’t need to wait for a church initiative before you start living and Outward in Focus style life. Start living like that today. Get to know your neighbor, find out how you could be a blessing to them. Buy Fair Trade and ensure workers in third world countries get a fair deal. Smile, encourage people, practice lifting people in life even when it’s inconvenient. You can make a huge difference in the world around you. |
